Documented identity

• Lineage. Bob Squier’s communications shop (1968) became Squier Knapp Dunn; merged with Knickerbocker Consulting in 2004; SKDKnickerbocker name formalized in 2010. The “D” is widely treated as Anita Dunn.
• Ownership. October 2015 — The Stagwell Group (Mark Penn) acquired SKDK for an estimated $75 million. SKDK remains a standalone public-affairs unit inside Stagwell. Stagwell also took a stake in Targeted Victory (Republican digital/fundraising).
• Offices. Washington, New York, Los Angeles, Albany. Scale on the order of 200-plus employees (PitchBook has listed roughly 215).
• Key people (public record). Anita Dunn (founding partner; Obama WH communications director; Biden senior adviser). CEO Doug Thornell (from late 2022). President Mike Morey. Partners and senior names across cycles include Bill Knapp, Hilary Rosen, Kerri Lyon, Jill Zuckman, Oren Shur, Josh Isay (now senior counsel).
• Political brand. Democratic campaigns and committees are the firm’s advertised franchise. Corporate and foreign-principal work sits next to that book.
